Bachué
The
goddess Bachué is the primogenial mother of Muisca people, being the goddess of
springs, wells and brooks. Bachué taught to the very first Muisca natives
precepts such as peace and living together. It seems that she was worshiped,
together with her husband – who emerged with her in the form of a child from
the Iguaque lagoon) – in a special sanctuary probably located at the present
San Pedro de Iguaque. Once
filled the world with people and left her teaching among Muiscas, the goddess
returned with her companion and both turned into snakes on entering the holy
Iguaque lagoon. The
figure of the Snake appears associated with the holy lagoon in several Muisca
myths. |
