Disney Fairies is a Disney franchise built around the character of Tinker Bell, whom Disney adapted in their 1953 animated film Peter Pan  and subsequently adopted as a mascot for the company. In addition to

the fictional fairy character created by J. M. Barrie, the franchise introduces many new characters, and expands substantially upon the limited information the author gave about the fairies and their home of Never Land. The characters are referred to within stories as “Never Fairies”. The franchise includes children’s books and other merchandise, a web site, and Tinker Bell, a film featuring the famous character and several of the Disney fairies as supporting characters.

In Barrie’s 1902 novel The Little White Bird, in which he introduced the mythos of Peter Pan and the fairies, he wrote, “When the first baby laughed for the first time, his laugh broke into a million pieces, and they all went skipping about. That was the beginning of fairies.” The Disney Fairies are based on a similar idea: every time a newborn baby laughs for the first time, that laugh travels out into the world, and those that make their way to Never Land turn into a fairy.

The fairies generally reside in the Home Tree, a towering tree located in the heart of Pixie Hollow in Never Land. Various groups of fairies work and live nearby as well. Most of the fairy characters are young and female, but older and male characters are also included. The males are sometimes referred to as “sparrow men”, though the term “fairies” is used to refer to both female and male characters.

Each fairy has a specific talent that they perform and a distinct personality, intended for young girls to each relate to a fairy with a similar persona.

  Rosetta, Iridessa, Tinker Bell, Sivermist and Fawn

Tinker Bell, also known as “Tink”, is sassy and brave. Although she is initially resistant to becoming a “tinker” (the fairies who create and fix things), she embraces the identity when she comes to recognize the value of her talent. She is inexperienced, but a good problem solver. She can be easily impatient and annoyed, yet she is extremely loyal.

Silvermist is a water fairy of East Asian appearance, but she looks French in the books. She is Rani’s best friend, who cares for Rani and to mostly everyone. She looks on the positive side of life and acts as an influence between Tink and Iridessa. When Tink or Rani is in trouble, Silvermist always helps. She is seen in books frequently.

Rosetta is a garden fairy. She is not that selfish, because she loves to bring beauty into the lives of others and herself, although she can act a bit self-obsessed. She is Lily’s friend who looks out for her. She sings and tells bedtime stories to her potted plant flowers. She is a redhead who speaks in a southern accent.

Fawn is an animal-talent fairy with the ability to communicate with them. She can usually be seen in browns, purples, greens, and oranges. She is very easygoing and a little mischievous. She is known for her long, wavy braid and her tomboy personality.

Iridessa is a light-talent fairy of African appearance. She could be described as a perfectionist. She is good friend with Tinker Bell but sometimes get angry with her because she plays around. However, if Tinkerbell needs help, Iridessa will always help Tinker Bell.

Fairy Mary is also known as the teacher of all the Disney Fairies at Fairy School. She flits about like a hummingbird. She is a teacher-talent fairy and is pictured as a tiny winged, plump fairy with chestnut curls.

Bobble, whose real name is Phineas T. Kettletree, is a tinker sparrow man. He wears large goggles with water droplets for lenses, making his eyes look large. He has red hair and bright blue eyes, as well as a Scottish accent. He is first to show Tink around Pixie Hollow. He is best friend with Clank.

Clank is another tinker sparrow man and Bobble’s best friend. He is large and not very bright which was depicted frequently in the movie. His mistakes tend to get Bobble and him both in trouble with Fairy Mary as they stutter weak lies to try to get out of it.

Terence is a dust-talent sparrow man, who hands out pixie dust to other fairies each day so they may do their magic. He is charming, calm, and kind. He has a bit of a crush on Tinker Bell, which she is unaware of, he is constantly stopping by her workshop with something for her to fix, or finding reasons to be around her.

Vidia is a fast-flying fairy. She has an insatiable desire to be the fastest flying fairy and will stop at nothing to become faster. She often makes cruel remarks, and is impatient when she is kept waiting. Vidia does not live in the Home Tree. In the movie she serves as an antagonist to Tinker Bell.

Queen Clarion, also known as Queen Ree, is the Never Fairies’ leader. She oversees all life in Pixie Hollow. Queen Clarion is wise and dignified. Her ultimate concern is the health and well being of her subjects.

Beck is one of the animal-talent fairies. Her primary job is to care for Mother Dove and ensure that she never has to leave the nest. Beck is curious and good-hearted, though she can be a bit shy. While Beck loves Pixie Hollow, she is very curious about the great world.

Bess is an art-talent fairy. She is messy and quite sensitive to criticism. She is Pixie Hollow’s most talented painter, and is responsible for providing a new portrait of Mother Dove every year for the Molt celebration. Bess is considered to be Pixie Hollow’s foremost art-talent fairy.

Fira, also known as Moth, is a light-talent fairy. She is fiery and a natural leader. Fira is responsible for training all the fireflies that light Pixie Hollow. Described as one of the most talented of the light-talent fairies, Fira is said to have a glow that could light the entirety of The Home Tree. Her best friend is Silvermist, and she would never leave her side.

Lily is a garden-talented fairy. She has the most beautiful garden in Pixie Hollow. Lily is down-to-earth and practical. She is extremely patient. She is the only fairy who prefers walking to flying. One of Lily’s hobbies is to sit and watch grass grow (as grass tends to grow quickly in her presence).

Prilla is an adventure-talented fairy and is the only one of her kind in Pixie Hollow. Prilla is a good-humored fairy that always has good intentions. She is also very freckled and “pleasantly plump”, which indicates that she is a bit younger than other fairies.

Rani is a water-talented fairy. She is a passionate dreamer, who is enthusiastic and impulsive. She gave up her wings to save Mother Dove, making her the only fairy who can swim.

Dulcie is a baking-talent fairy; the only thing Dulcie loves more than making delicious treats is watching other fairies eat them.

Iris is a garden-talent fairy who would rather learn about plants than tend her own garden. She’s a bit of a know-it-all, but she’s usually right.

Pluck is a harvest-talent fairy who loves to find and collect delicious fruits and nuts.

Precious is a mining-talent fairy who works in the ground and caves.

Luna is a beautiful light fairy like the glue that keeps Fira and Iridessa together.

Pell is a harvest-talent fairy and Pluck’s best friend.

Twire is a scrap-metal talent fairy who melts down metal to recycle. She sometimes fights with Tink for who gets to keep the metal for melting or fixing.

Cinda, Liesel, Rhia and Grace are the Queen’s helper-talents who make sure everything is in tip-top shape for her.

Ginger is a baking-talent fairy like Dulcie. She likes to show up Dulcie with her baking and tends to be very rude. She took over when Dulcie had a vacation.

Quill is an art-talent fairy who is quiet, shy, and is very good friends with Bess.

Hem is a beautiful fairy who has made her flower shoes into flower flip-flops and all the fairies in Pixie Hollow are amazed by it. Once when every one saw her dress they all needed to have one.

Violet is one of the cutest fairies in Pixie Hollow. She is a dyeing-talent who is best friends with Bess.

Zuzu is a server-talent fairy who is very loyal to her job.

Spring is a spunky garden-talent fairy who is good friends with Fira and Lily.

Scarlet is a new art-talent fairy. She doesn’t know her specific talent yet and she is friend with Bess.

Mother Dove is a dove who has an egg that is in Pixie Hollow that was broken but restored by Rani, Vidia, and Prilla in Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg. Mother Dove helps the people in Never Land stay young and is mentioned in every book.

Kyto is a dragon who has been caged for as long as anyone can remember. He is very sneaky and once when Mother Dove’s egg broke he had to make it whole again with a trade of Captain Hook’s double cigar holder, the golden hawk’s feather, a mermaid’s comb and Rani’s wings.
